Caymanian-American artist John Reno Jackson seeks to blend familiarity with illusion, so to create a narrative of dualities. A co-exist of themes and narratives, to showcase the multiple viewpoints of a story or subject (person).
The artist hopes to showcase the essence and the multifaceted nature of the subject, as with life nothing is one dimensional.
The artist accomplishes this aim through exploring exaggeration, distortion, and primitivism. With the use of dynamic, bold, energetic, and vivid applications of colour/formal elements.
He is currently developing compositions that deal with abstracting and combining photo imagery/drawings/collages through digital software and then using these digital references as "maps/blueprints" for paintings. His works show the viewer his current task to create paintings that can act as both figures and landscapes and also reflect on developing a gonzo narrative around migration and identity (fables, social interaction, adolescence, race, and discovering sexuality).
By using digital mapping and architectural graphs to create a space, stories and experiences to create a narrative, and the artists personal subconscious to choose the colours and the shapes; Jackson hopes to find the true definition of the subject presented.
Through use of different mediums the artist also hopes to showcase the process of creating such paintings. As the paintings could not be completed without the use of performance, photography, music, drawings, assemblages, etc.
